Kids Say the Cutest Things!
Well, I intended to do this much sooner and more frequently but I haven't really found the time until now.
I thought it would be fun to share some of the silly things I hear each day as a first grade teacher. When kids in my class say cute things I try to remember them and write them down as soon as possible. I actually keep a book in my desk for this very purpose. I love to go back and read them on the days that I don't like my job, because as soon as I read a few I start cracking up and I remember that I really do like my job and I especially love my students!
Here are just a few. (These are from memory as I left my kid's quotes notebook at school.)
One day a little boy came up to my co-teacher holding out his 2 hands and he asked her, "Which one is my left? Which one is my left? Just tell me!" She pointed to his left hand and he walked over to a Rubbermaid container at our Art Center. He looked at the text on the handle and carefully sounded out the words, "Left to Open." Mrs. D told him he did a good job sounding out and that he was really close but it actually said, "Lift to Open." He looked up at her very surprised expression and said, "You mean I can use either hand?!"
On the first day of school there was a little boy who said, "I don't want to go home. I want to stay in first grade 'til I'm a grandpa!"
After lunch I read a few chapters of a series called "Junie B. Jones." These books are halarious! In one of the stories the main character Junie flips off her shoes to hop in a bouncy castle. I was acting it out and flipped off my shoes. The shoe inserts I had in my shoes flopped out and right in the middle of my reading aloud a little boy yells out, "YOU HAVE FOOT COMFORTERS?! I HAVE FOOT COMFORTERS TOO!!! DO YOU HAVE FAT FEET? I HAVE FAT FEET TOO!!!" (He has a hard time saying his "L" sound so he was actually trying to say "flat feet" but it came out "fat feet")
This is just a small dose of all the fun things I have to smile about each day at work! More to come...
